The Director of Business Development is responsible for the execution of the business development strategy; this includes planning, strategy, and marketing activities. They’ll work in close conjunction with Senior Leadership to develop objectives and strategies in support of overall corporate goals.
To be successful, the Director of Business Development will own the sales cycle from early sales efforts through pre-con efforts and the hand-over to project operation team. This person will need to build strong communication links with senior leaders, operations team, as well as strategic partners, customers, and subcontractors. They will comply with all company and contract policies, and will conduct individual and business affairs in the highest ethical and legal manner. They will establish and contribute to a supportive, creative, enthusiastic, and cooperative environment for all team members.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for strategizing the business development plan and its implementation in collaboration with key players
Cultivate relationships with targeted customers to enhance identification of immediate and future project opportunities
Collecting competitive intelligence on the marketplace (e.g. customer needs, customer expectations, competitor knowledge, etc.)
Identifying future opportunities and market shifts
Develop a projection of required or projected bonding and other financial requirements associated with an opportunity
Develop capture plan for targeted opportunities and collaborate with the team on project strategy, development, pricing, contract negotiations, closing, and then preconstruction services as needed
Identify, screen, pre-qualify, and develop bids/proposals in close conjunction with the team for projects
Provide status reports on new initiatives, projects identified, and action plans
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree (Engineering or Construction Management preferred, Finance degrees are also acceptable with the right experience)
Strong financial background with experience in project financing, export banking, and/or international banking (experience with EXIM or DFC preferred)
Experience working with Foreign Ministries and/or U.S. Federal Government (DOD or DOS) on international projects
At least 10 years international construction experience
Demonstrated success in pursuing new business opportunities
Value engineering experience
Ability to build and maintain industry relationships
Ability to “tee-up” business opportunities
Ability to think outside the box, capitalize on strategic alliances, partners, etc
Exposure to project estimating and preconstruction services is preferred
This position is open to remote work. Compensation will be commensurate with experience, pay structure will also include a commission-based bonus.
